We all like to think we know where we come from — but sometimes the story is slightly more complex.

With the world news constantly focusing on our differences rather than the ties that bind, it could be easy to see ourselves as far removed from one another.

A large part of this is because, throughout history, different ideas of countries and borders have been used to include some and exclude others, and ultimately, plays a role in how we explain negative and hateful behaviors.
