What sort of “rules” do you follow?

We all grow up within a society — a group that has a set way of doing things, and set rules which they abide by. These might not be obvious at first glance, but it’s these unwritten rules which govern the way we think, act, and live.

This is what makes them so powerful — and, sometimes, so dangerous.

Vishen Lakhiani has a term for these rules — “brules.” What exactly is a brule? To put it simply, it’s a bullshit rule which we blindly follow, simply because “that’s the way things are.” It’s akin to walking through life with your eyes shut, simply treading the path that others created… without considering if it’s really what you want.

Another word for these sort of rules? Dogma.

In this short video, which is a trailer for Vishen’s new (and controversial) book, The Code of the Extraordinary Mind, you’ll get a taste of what’s to come — and why it’s so important to question everything.
